The Christian cross is one of the most iconic religious symbols in world history, and its current abundance in jewellery design is not unprecedented. From oversized pendants, to statement rings and everything in between, it’s hard to find a jewellery department that isn’t stocked with a few variations of the cross.
But where does sacredness stop and style begin? Crucifix jewellery has more wearers than only those that follow Christ’s teachings. In fact, it’s not uncommon to see people of entirely differing religious backgrounds wearing the cross for fashion purposes.
That’s not to say that these styles should be restricted to those who connect the symbol with their belief system, but we have definitely noticed that other religious symbols tend to only be worn by those that practice that specific religion.
What do you think of crucifix jewellery’s popularity: fun and fashionable, or teetering on taboo? If you’re not a Christian, would you still wear the cross?
