Let’s face it; pearls have gotten a bad rap. Though they’re universally synonymous with class and elegance, they’ve been confined to ensembles donned at Easter Brunch or High Tea. They’re usually gifted as a symbol of coming of age, or are passed down as family heirlooms that live in the back corner of a jewellery box, rarely touched.
Until now. We are always proponents of repurposing jewellery in fresh and unexpected ways, and when we stumbled upon some buried pieces, we though “challenge accepted”.
First: pearls add a juxtaposed, balanced element to intrinsically edgy pieces like ear jackets and oversized cuffs. But what about the classic strand your grandmother gave you? Layer it with bulky chains, long pendants, or even collar-grazing pieces to infuse some ladylike flair into your collection. Throw on a motorcycle jacket and those pearls won’t even know what hit ‘em.
