Year after year, designers, artists and fashionistas alike patiently await Pantone’s Colour of the Year announcement. Wine lovers rejoice; the announcement was made for 2015 and it is “Marsala”, which is commonly used in Italian cuisine. Pantone notoriously selects glamorous, punchy hues for its annual colour and favorites from past years include Emerald Green and Radiant Orchid. The news has sparked controversy amongst the masses, and this year’s selection has elicited responses from critics calling it “flat” and “unenticing”.
Leatrice Eisman, Executive Director of Pantone Colour Institute retorts “It has a richness that lends sophistication. When you wear it’s it is a self-fulfilling prophecy—you’ll find you get positive reactions from others and it builds up your confidence.”
Whether you love the vino inspired hue or feel it lacks a little luster, it’s here to stay (at least for the year!).
